Synastry is a short film taking place in the not-too-distant future where citizens of Earth are promised a better life by leaving the planet to work for the global corporate monopoly, Ficra. Blending the simplicities of yesterday's "every day life" with tomorrow's ever-expanding opportunities, Synastry explores the dance between holding on to the past and stepping into the future.One young couple has been torn apart by the draw, leaving Joanne existing in the wake of her partner's departure. Can love withstand the challenges of opposing timelines?

Though the world of Synastry exists in a reality of science-fiction, it carries strong parallels to our day-to-day lives.We’re living in an age of unprecedented possibility. We can imagine various careers, various cities, various identities, and various futures. But choosing one life means letting the others go. And sometimes, the person we love wants a different life than the one we’ve chosen. Our film asks: can two people love each other deeply and still exist in different worlds?Our lives are defined not just by the choices we make, but by the lives we leave behind.

Director's Statement

I have lived in many cities including New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Tulsa, Albuquerque and now find myself in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for graduate school. I have experienced a familiar sense of both loss and adventure with each move.Synastry has found a way to capture that paradoxical feeling with grace and respect. I have participated in the emotionally complex journey people experience when determining their next move. It can be thrilling, sad, joyous and lonely - all at once. Synastry finds this balance. I knew I had to direct it the first time I read it. The story is specific to these characters while the themes and emotions are universal.-Natasha Straley
